Oh Date Night, how I have missed you!
Eric and I got a chance to go on a date this weekend and it was FABULOUS! My Mom agreed to babysit and I couldn't be more grateful :) It is quite rare that Eric and I go out on a date so I was really, REALLY looking forward to an evening away from the kiddos!
We decided to try out Carvers restaurant and I just can't say enough good things about it. It's a small quiet place with a very romantic atmosphere. The service was exceptional and the food was absolutely scrumptious!! I ordered some wine that our waiter told me won a few awards this year. I never did get the name of it but it was very good and if I would have ordered the whole bottle it would have knocked my socks off ;). We decided to make it a very special night since we don't get out that often. We both ordered the filet mignon. I also got lobster. Eric got a skewer of shrimp and scallops. We tried the sides of mushrooms and asparagus. I got a side of whipped potatoes with herbs, Eric got the risotto. The Au Jus that came on the side added the perfect touch. The lobster melted in my mouth. The steak was done to perfection! The whole meal was amazing! And the best part was that I didn't have to cook it!!!
For dessert we shared a blueberry cheesecake which was the best cheesecake I've ever eaten. And since it was our first time at Carver's, they put the cheesecake on the house :)
Eric and I had a fantastic date. We already have a few places in mind for the next time we can get away, just the two of us (or with friends if it works out!!).
Our usual favourite places are:
- The Manhatten (formerly Brothers Two, totally renovated - it's awesome!)
- We LOVED John's Prime Rib which is now closed :( But Hudson's will be opening in it's place!
- Earl's LOVE their clam chowder and Bento Box!
- The Conga Cafe is a little Jamaican restaurant. I love their Jerk Chicken Wrap!
- Saskatoon Asian I love their Shezhuan Noodle special! Delicious!
- Keo's Kitchen - amazing Pad Thai!! I also love the coconut rice and panang shrimp.
- Red Lobster, Moxies (their Enchiladas are sooooo good!!), Montana's (I like their Smokehouse Chicken Wrap), Tony Roma's, The Athena (love their seafood melt) and the Salonika are also a few favourites.
Places we would like to try are:
Saboroso - we have heard SO many good things about this place. Go on their website and click on "media" to see what they are all about. It seems so unique, I can't wait to try it. I heard you have to book your reservations 2 weeks in advance! I tried booking the night we wanted to go and it was completely booked up. Will have to try again sometime!
Original Joe's - This has been around for a while now and we haven't quite made it there yet!
Tusq - It has a duelling piano show certain nights of the week (I love piano!)
St. Tropez Bistro & Mr. Rizo's - I was told that both of these places are awesome and should be tried!!
But of course we are always open to suggestions and love hearing about our friend's great experiences. What are YOUR favourite restaurants and what do you like to order there?
What a great night. Great food. Great service. And most importantly, great company :)

glad you had a great time! i haven't been to saboroso but i have been to other brazillian bbq's and they are amazing.
have you been to the upstairs? it's a fondue restaurant on 8th and broadway. i went for a stagette this summer and it was amazing!
hope you get another night away soon!
PS you look fantastic!!
Marc and I walked into Saboroso when we stayed over night in S'toon over Christmas. Two weeks for reservations? That would explain it! We tried a couple of different places. We'd really wanted to go to the Ivy but were in the wrong part of town and knew we wouldn't get there in time to get a seat. We ended up eating Sushi at a place just off 8th that looked a lot nicer from the outside than in! The thought of food poisoning crossed both of our minds when we got there, but thankfully that didn't happen! Glad you had such a nice time out. Those dates during the baby years are precious indeed! One year for Valentine's Day b/c Marc adn I couldn't go out, we put the kids to bed early, and ate supper late: Chinese food in bed while watching a movie. It was nice, even if it wasn't a "night out".
I forgot to add the Upstairs to the list!!
I think for Valentine's Day a "night out" in the house with a late supper sounds grande!!
